7-book Fall/Winter Reading List

I feel like with the change in weather, the things that I read change with it. I tend to drift away from light-hearted literature, the odd chicklit and familiarly structured storylines and delve into more fantasy, lore and old, dark favorites. I think there's something to be said about reading a Penny Dreadful in your bed, with a hot cup of anything, watching the snow/rain outside. There's a sense of security and comfort. I will point out here that I believe in ghouls and ghosts and spirits and find myself, more often than not, falling asleep with my lights on and a podcast to break the silence.

Here are some of my absolute favorite books that I've loved for many, many years - most of them span back to when I was 9/10 and discovered fantasy literature for the first time (I think that was when the Harry Potter books were doing so well that we had to wait on the next one to release - needed some fodder).

Of course, this is in no way a comprehensive list - I will be doing a post about the best fantasy books (in my opinion) to have ever been written and no, Twilight and it's bloody inbred spin-offs are not on it.

1. Thief Lord - Cornelia Funke (also read her Inkheart series - it is amazing).
2. Penny Dreadfuls - cause I love me some 19th century spooky.
3. The Book Thief - Markus Zusak - one of the most descriptively woven stories I've ever read.
4. Fantastic Beasts and where to find them - J.K. Rowling - well, the movie is coming out. This is a well thumbed edition from when Comic Relief brought it out all those years ago
5. Ptolemy's Gate - Johnathan Stroud (Third part of the Bartimaeus Trilogy, highly recommend reading the first two)
6. Dracula - Bram Stoker (I was way too young when I first read this, this definitely whet my appetite for the spooky. I think I was 7. Sneaked into the classics section of my town library and read it feverishly).
7. The Memory Keeper's Daughter - Kim Edwards - This just reminds me of rainy days, some tears and a feeling of absolute loss. Best book if you want to have a good sob and let it all out. Beautifully, beautifully written.
